A'isha reported:When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) grew bulky and heavy he would observe (most of his Nafl) prayers sitting

وحدثني محمد بن حاتم، وحسن الحلواني، كلاهما عن زيد، قال حسن حدثنا زيد بن الحباب، حدثني الضحاك بن عثمان، حدثني عبد الله بن عروة، عن ابيه، عن عايشة، قالت لما بدن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وثقل كان اكثر صلاته جالسا

Hafsa reported:Never did I see the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observing supererogatory prayer sitting till one year before his death when he would observe Nafl prayer in a sitting position, and he would recite the Surah (of the Qur'an) in such a slow-measured tone (that duration of its recital) became more lengthy than the one longer than this

حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، قال قرات على مالك عن ابن شهاب، عن السايب بن يزيد، عن المطلب بن ابي وداعة السهمي، عن حفصة، انها قالت ما رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى في سبحته قاعدا حتى كان قبل وفاته بعام فكان يصلي في سبحته قاعدا وكان يقرا بالسورة فيرتلها حتى تكون اطول من اطول منها

Zuhri reported this hadith with the same chain of transmitters, except this that he made a mention of one year or two years

وحدثني ابو الطاهر، وحرملة، قالا اخبرنا ابن وهب، اخبرني يونس، ح وحدثنا اسحاق بن ابراهيم، وعبد بن حميد، قالا اخبرنا عبد الرزاق، اخبرنا معمر، جميعا عن الزهري، بهذا الاسناد . مثله غير انهما قالا بعام واحد او اثنين

Jabir b. Samura reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed (Nafl) prayer sitting before his death

وحدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى، عن حسن بن صالح، عن سماك، قال اخبرني جابر بن سمرة، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لم يمت حتى صلى قاعدا

Abdullah b. 'Amr reported:It was narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said: The prayer observed by a person sitting is half of the prayer. I came to him (ﷺ) and found him praying in a sitting position. I placed my hand on his head. He said: O 'Abdullah b. 'Amr, what is the matter with you? I said: Messenger of Allah, it has been narrated to me that you said: The prayer of a man in a sitting position is half of the prayer, whereas you are observing prayer sitting. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes, it is so, but I am not like anyone amongst you

وحدثني زهير بن حرب، حدثنا جرير، عن منصور، عن هلال بن يساف، عن ابي يحيى، عن عبد الله بن عمرو، قال حدثت ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال " صلاة الرجل قاعدا نصف الصلاة " . قال فاتيته فوجدته يصلي جالسا فوضعت يدي على راسه فقال ما لك يا عبد الله بن عمرو قلت حدثت يا رسول الله انك قلت " صلاة الرجل قاعدا على نصف الصلاة " . وانت تصلي قاعدا قال " اجل ولكني لست كاحد منكم

A hadith like this has been narrated by Abu Yahya al-A'raj with the same chain of transmitters

وحدثناه ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، ومحمد بن المثنى، وابن، بشار جميعا عن محمد بن جعفر، عن شعبة، ح وحدثنا ابن المثنى، حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، حدثنا سفيان، كلاهما عن منصور، بهذا الاسناد وفي رواية شعبة عن ابي يحيى الاعرج،

A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, observing the Witr with a single rak'ah, and when he had finished them, he lay down on his right side, till the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he (the Holy Prophet) then observed two short rak'ahs (of Sunan of the dawn prayer)

حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، قال قرات على مالك عن ابن شهاب، عن عروة، عن عايشة، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يصلي بالليل احدى عشرة ركعة يوتر منها بواحدة فاذا فرغ منها اضطجع على شقه الايمن حتى ياتيه الموذن فيصلي ركعتين خفيفتين

A'isha reported:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to observe thirteen rak'ahs of the night prayer. Five out of them consisted of Witr, and he did not sit, but at the end (for salutation)

وحدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، وابو كريب قالا حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير، ح وحدثنا ابن نمير، حدثنا ابي، حدثنا هشام، عن ابيه، عن عايشة، قالت كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي من الليل ثلاث عشرة ركعة يوتر من ذلك بخمس لا يجلس في شىء الا في اخرها

This hadith has been narrated by Hisham with the same chain of transmitters

وحدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، حدثنا عبدة بن سليمان، ح وحدثناه ابو كريب، حدثنا وكيع، وابو اسامة كلهم عن هشام، بهذا الاسناد

A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night including the two rak'ahs (Sunan) of the dawn prayer

وحدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد، حدثنا ليث، عن يزيد بن ابي حبيب، عن عراك بن مالك، عن عروة، ان عايشة، اخبرته ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يصلي ثلاث عشرة ركعة بركعتى الفجر

Abu Salama b. Abd al-Rahman asked 'A'isha about the (night) prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) during the month of Ramadan. She said:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not observe either in Ramadan or in other months more than eleven rak'ahs (of the night prayer). He (in the first instance) observed four rak'ahs. Ask not about their excellence and their length (i. e. these were matchless in perfection and length). He again observed four rak'ahs, and ask not about their excellence and their length. He would then observe three rak'ahs (of the Witr prayer). 'A'isha again said: I said: Messenger of Allah, do you sleep before observing the Witr prayer? He said: O 'A'isha, my eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep

حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، قال قرات على مالك عن سعيد بن ابي سعيد المقبري، عن ابي سلمة بن عبد الرحمن، انه سال عايشة كيف كانت صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في رمضان قالت ما كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يزيد في رمضان ولا في غيره على احدى عشرة ركعة يصلي اربعا فلا تسال عن حسنهن وطولهن ثم يصلي اربعا فلا تسال عن حسنهن وطولهن ثم يصلي ثلاثا فقالت عايشة فقلت يا رسول الله اتنام قبل ان توتر فقال " يا عايشة ان عينى تنامان ولا ينام قلبي

Abu Salama asked 'A'isha about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) She said:He observed thirteen rak'ahs (in the night prayer). He observed eight rak'ahs and would then observe Witr and then observe two rak'ahs sitting, and when he wanted to bow he stood up and then bowed down, and then observed two rak'ahs in between the Adhan and lqama of the dawn prayer

وحدثنا محمد بن المثنى، حدثنا ابن ابي عدي، حدثنا هشام، عن يحيى، عن ابي سلمة، قال سالت عايشة عن صلاة، رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقالت كان يصلي ثلاث عشرة ركعة يصلي ثمان ركعات ثم يوتر ثم يصلي ركعتين وهو جالس فاذا اراد ان يركع قام فركع ثم يصلي ركعتين بين النداء والاقامة من صلاة الصبح

Abu Salama reported that he asked 'A'isha about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) (during the night). The rest of the hadith is the same but with this exception that he (the Holy Prophet) observed nine rak'ahs including Witr

وحدثني زهير بن حرب، حدثنا حسين بن محمد، حدثنا شيبان، عن يحيى، قال سمعت ابا سلمة، ح وحدثني يحيى بن بشر الحريري، حدثنا معاوية، - يعني ابن سلام - عن يحيى بن ابي كثير، قال اخبرني ابو سلمة، انه سال عايشة عن صلاة، رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم . بمثله غير ان في حديثهما تسع ركعات قايما يوتر منهن

Abu Salama is reported to have said. I came to 'A'isha. I said:O mother, inform me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). She said: His (night prayer) in Ramadan and (during other months) was thirteen rak'ahs at night including two rak'ahs of fajr

وحدثنا عمرو الناقد، حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة، عن عبد الله بن ابي لبيد، سمع ابا سلمة، قال اتيت عايشة فقلت اى امه اخبريني عن صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم . فقالت كانت صلاته في شهر رمضان وغيره ثلاث عشرة ركعة بالليل منها ركعتا الفجر

It is reported on the authority of 'A'isha that the prayer of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in the night consisted of ten rak'ahs. He observed a Witr and two rak'ahs (of Sunan) of the dawn prayer, and thus the total comes to thirteen rak'ahs

حدثنا ابن نمير، حدثنا ابي، حدثنا حنظلة، عن القاسم بن محمد، قال سمعت عايشة، تقول كانت صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من الليل عشر ركعات ويوتر بسجدة ويركع ركعتى الفجر فتلك ثلاث عشرة ركعة

A'isha thus reported about the (night prayer) of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ):He used to sleep in the early part of the night, and woke up in the latter part. If he then wished intercourse with his wife, he satisfied his desire, and then went to sleep; and when the first call to prayer was made he jumped up (by Allah, she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say" he stood up" ), and poured water over him (by Allah she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say that he took a bath but I know what she meant) and if he did not have an intercourse, he performed ablution, just as a man performs ablution for prayer and then observed two rak'ahs

وحدثنا احمد بن يونس، حدثنا زهير، حدثنا ابو اسحاق، ح وحدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، اخبرنا ابو خيثمة، عن ابي اسحاق، قال سالت الاسود بن يزيد عما حدثته عايشة، عن صلاة، رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قالت كان ينام اول الليل ويحيي اخره ثم ان كانت له حاجة الى اهله قضى حاجته ثم ينام فاذا كان عند النداء الاول - قالت - وثب - ولا والله ما قالت قام - فافاض عليه الماء - ولا والله ما قالت اغتسل . وانا اعلم ما تريد - وان لم يكن جنبا توضا وضوء الرجل للصلاة ثم صلى الركعتين

A'isha observed that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to observe prayer in the night and the last of his (night) prayer was Witr

حدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، وابو كريب قالا حدثنا يحيى بن ادم، حدثنا عمار بن رزيق، عن ابي اسحاق، عن الاسود، عن عايشة، قالت كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي من الليل حتى يكون اخر صلاته الوتر

Masruq is reported to have asked 'A'isha about the action (most pleasing to) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). She said:He (the Holy Prophet) loved (that action) which one keeps on doing regularly. I said (to 'A'isha): When did he pray (at night)? She replied: When he heard the cock crow, he got up and observed prayer

حدثني هناد بن السري، حدثنا ابو الاحوص، عن اشعث، عن ابيه، عن مسروق، قال سالت عايشة عن عمل، رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقالت كان يحب الدايم . قال قلت اى حين كان يصلي فقالت كان اذا سمع الصارخ قام فصلى

A'isha reported:Never did the earlier part of the dawn find the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) but sleeping in my house or near me

حدثنا ابو كريب، اخبرنا ابن بشر، عن مسعر، عن سعد، عن ابي سلمة، عن عايشة، قالت ما الفى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم السحر الاعلى في بيتي - او عندي - الا نايما

A'isha reported:When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had prayed the two rak'ahs (Sunan) of the dawn prayer, he would talk to me if I was awake, otherwise he would lie down

حدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة، ونصر بن علي، وابن ابي عمر، قال ابو بكر حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة، عن ابي النضر، عن ابي سلمة، عن عايشة، قالت كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم اذا صلى ركعتى الفجر فان كنت مستيقظة حدثني والا اضطجع
