Sahih al-Bukhari — Actions while Praying

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent me for some job and when I had finished it I returned and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and greeted him but he did not return my greeting. So I felt so sorry that only Allah knows it and I said to myself,, 'Perhaps Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is angry because I did not come quickly, then again I greeted him but he did not reply. I felt even more sorry than I did the first time. Again I greeted him and he returned the greeting and said, "The thing which prevented me from returning the greeting was that I was praying." And at that time he was on his Rahila and his face was not towards the Qibla

حدثنا ابو معمر، حدثنا عبد الوارث، حدثنا كثير بن شنظير، عن عطاء بن ابي رباح، عن جابر بن عبد الله رضى الله عنهما قال بعثني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في حاجة له فانطلقت، ثم رجعت وقد قضيتها، فاتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فسلمت عليه، فلم يرد على، فوقع في قلبي ما الله اعلم به فقلت في نفسي لعل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وجد على اني ابطات عليه، ثم سلمت عليه فلم يرد على، فوقع في قلبي اشد من المرة الاولى، ثم سلمت عليه فرد على فقال " انما منعني ان ارد عليك اني كنت اصلي ". وكان على راحلته متوجها الى غير القبلة

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani `Amr bin `Auf at Quba reached Allah's Apostle and so he went to them along with some of his companions to affect a reconciliation. Allah's Apostle was delayed there and the time for the prayer became due. Bilal came to Abu Bakr and said, "O Abu Bakr! Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is detained (there) and the time for the prayer is due. Will you lead the people in prayer?" Abu Bakr replied, "Yes, if you wish." So Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr went forward and the people said Takbir. In the meantime, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came piercing through the rows till he stood in the (first) row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr, would never look hither and thither during the prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) beckoned him to carry on. Abu Bakr raised both his hands, praised Allah and retreated till he stood in the row and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he had finished the prayer, he addressed the people and said, "O people! Why did you start clapping when something happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is for women. Whenever one is confronted with something unusual in the prayer one should say, 'Subhan Allah'." Then the Prophet looked towards Abu Bakr and asked, "What prevented you from leading the prayer when I beckoned you to carry on?" Abu Bakr replied, "It does not befit the son of Al Quhafa to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)

حدثنا قتيبة، حدثنا عبد العزيز، عن ابي حازم، عن سهل بن سعد رضى الله عنه قال بلغ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ان بني عمرو بن عوف بقباء كان بينهم شىء، فخرج يصلح بينهم في اناس من اصحابه، فحبس رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وحانت الصلاة، فجاء بلال الى ابي بكر رضى الله عنهما فقال يا ابا بكر، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قد حبس وقد حانت الصلاة، فهل لك ان توم الناس قال نعم ان شيت. فاقام بلال الصلاة، وتقدم ابو بكر رضى الله عنه فكبر للناس، وجاء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يمشي في الصفوف يشقها شقا، حتى قام في الصف، فاخذ الناس في التصفيح. قال سهل التصفيح هو التصفيق. قال وكان ابو بكر رضى الله عنه لا يلتفت في صلاته، فلما اكثر الناس التفت فاذا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فاشار اليه، يامره ان يصلي، فرفع ابو بكر رضى الله عنه يده، فحمد الله، ثم رجع القهقرى وراءه حتى قام في الصف، وتقدم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فصلى للناس، فلما فرغ اقبل على الناس فقال " يا ايها الناس ما لكم حين نابكم شىء في الصلاة اخذتم بالتصفيح انما التصفيح للنساء، من نابه شىء في صلاته فليقل سبحان الله ". ثم التفت الى ابي بكر رضى الله عنه فقال " يا ابا بكر، ما منعك ان تصلي للناس حين اشرت اليك ". قال ابو بكر ما كان ينبغي لابن ابي قحافة ان يصلي بين يدى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم

Narrated Abu Huraira:It was forbidden to keep the hands on the hips during the prayer. (This is narrated by Abu Huraira from the Prophet)

حدثنا ابو النعمان، حدثنا حماد، عن ايوب، عن محمد، عن ابي هريرة رضى الله عنه قال نهي عن الخصر، في الصلاة. وقال هشام وابو هلال عن ابن سيرين، عن ابي هريرة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم

Narrated Abu Huraira:It was forbidden to pray with the hands over one's hips

حدثنا عمرو بن علي، حدثنا يحيى، حدثنا هشام، حدثنا محمد، عن ابي هريرة، رضى الله عنه قال نهي ان يصلي الرجل مختصرا

Narrated `Uqba bin Al-Harith:I offered the `Asr prayer with the Prophet (ﷺ) and after finishing the prayer with Taslim he got up quickly and went to some of his wives and then came out. He noticed the signs of astonishment on the faces of the people caused by his speed. He then said, "I remembered while I was in my prayer that a piece of gold was Lying in my house and I disliked that it should remain with us throughout the night, and so I have ordered it to be distributed

حدثنا اسحاق بن منصور، حدثنا روح، حدثنا عمر هو ابن سعيد قال اخبرني ابن ابي مليكة، عن عقبة بن الحارث رضى الله عنه قال صليت مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم العصر، فلما سلم قام سريعا دخل على بعض نسايه، ثم خرج وراى ما في وجوه القوم من تعجبهم لسرعته فقال " ذكرت وانا في الصلاة تبرا عندنا، فكرهت ان يمسي او يبيت عندنا فامرت بقسمته

Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When the Adhan for the prayer is pronounced, then Satan takes to his heels passing wind so that he may not hear the Adhan and when the Mu'adh-dhin finishes, he comes back; and when the Iqama is pronounced he again takes to his heels and when it is finished, he again comes back and continues reminding the praying person of things that he used not to remember when not in prayer till he forgets how much he has prayed." Abu Salama bin `Abdur-Rahman said, "If anyone of you has such a thing (forgetting the number of rak`at he has prayed) he should perform two prostrations of Sahu (i.e. forgetfulness) while sitting." Abu Salama narrates this from Abu Huraira

حدثنا يحيى بن بكير، حدثنا الليث، عن جعفر، عن الاعرج، قال قال ابو هريرة رضى الله عنه قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم " اذا اذن بالصلاة ادبر الشيطان له ضراط حتى لا يسمع التاذين، فاذا سكت الموذن اقبل، فاذا ثوب ادبر فاذا سكت اقبل، فلا يزال بالمرء يقول له اذكر ما لم يكن يذكر حتى لا يدري كم صلى ". قال ابو سلمة بن عبد الرحمن اذا فعل احدكم ذلك فليسجد سجدتين وهو قاعد. وسمعه ابو سلمة من ابي هريرة رضى الله عنه

Narrated Abu Huraira:People say that I narrate too many narrations of the Prophet; once I met a man (during the lifetime of the Prophet) and asked him, "Which Sura did Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recite yesterday in the `Isha' prayer?" He said, "I do not know." I said, "Did you not attend the prayer?" He said, "Yes, (I did)." I said, "I know. He recited such and such Sura

حدثنا محمد بن المثنى، حدثنا عثمان بن عمر، قال اخبرني ابن ابي ذيب، عن سعيد المقبري، قال قال ابو هريرة رضى الله عنه يقول الناس اكثر ابو هريرة، فلقيت رجلا فقلت بم قرا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم البارحة في العتمة فقال لا ادري. فقلت لم تشهدها قال بلى. قلت لكن انا ادري، قرا سورة كذا وكذا
